Women Enterprise Programs

PCA works closely with other organizations especially those which are conservation oriented and support women, including but not limited to; Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association, the Maa Trust and Base Camp Foundation.

MMWCA has offered training on entrepreneurship to women in PCA and the Mara at large severally. Recently they initiated a beekeeping enterprise for women and one group in PCA has already benefitted. They shall assist the women to nurture this project at least until the first harvest. They are also looking to establish a goat rearing project soon.

The Maa Trust runs a beadwork project for women groups around Naboisho and Olare Motorogi conservancies. They have six in PCA; Olkurroto, Nkamuriak, Enooronkon, Olesere, Mbitin and Enoosidan. These women bead diverse handicrafts and are compensated for their labour.

This project which started in 2013 has empowered women economically and improved their living standards and those of their families. They are able to pay school fees for their children and meet other basic needs. Besides, they have been availed water tanks, gas stoves and solar systems at affordable prices and reasonable purchase terms.

Basecamp Foundation has several enterprise programs too. They have trained adolescent girls in tailoring, hairdressing and cooking at Pardamat among other areas and given start-up materials to them. They also sell cooking stoves that use less wood and solar systems at subsidized prices to women.
